In the early stages we were interested in finding different kinds of devices which could be used in the classroom. We started to work with the Sony Playstation Portable (PSP) fully expecting that they would of be limited educational value. This has proven not to be the case and the very considerable success we have had using the PSP has encouraged us to not only look at other devices but also start to undertake research into why the devices engage leaners and help support effective teaching. From 2006 many more devices have become available, the iPad being probably the most notable, and this opens up new possibilities. Sound educational practice remains the key for adoption and use of technology. Engagement, effectiveness and efficiency are important considerations as are scalability and replicability.

We have been on a roller coaster of a journey to get this far and to mix metaphors the train is only just leaving the station. There are some interesting and exciting times ahead, however we should not underestimate the challenge!

Here is a Prezi presentation we delivered in May 2010, detailing The Journey to that point. So what does the future hold? Using Digital Games for Learning is a natural progression for us. We have seen the power of the devices but what about the software (Games) they run? We are onto it....
